KUCHING: The Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) revives the Sarawak Malay Drum through the Persembahan Kebudayaan Melayu Sarawak 2024 Siri I: Gendang Melayu Sarawak at the Godown Amphitheatre, Kuching Waterfront here recently.
Trustee Board of AKYBMS, Culture (AKYBMS Arts and Culture Committee) Datuk Wahab Abdul Aziz said AKYBMS was an indicator that played a role in encouraging all the people of Sarawak to be aware and concerned about Malay culture and arts.
“We want the people of Sarawak to appreciate and be proud of the aesthetic beauty portrayed in Sarawak Malay drum performances,” he said in a press statement.
Meanwhile, on the programme, he said it was a special event as it showcased Gendang Melayu Sarawak performances and Nopeng involving participants of various ages.
Among the participants involved were Artis Badan Seni AKYBMS, Waris Anak Seni (Kanak-kanak), Cahaya Bulan Mengambang (Remaja), Warisan Seni Melayu Kuching (Dewasa) and Kumpulan Seni Buana Kuching (Veteran).
The next event will be organised on June 22 for the Series II: Traditional Malay Poetry at the same location.
Also present were general manager of AKYBMS, Datuk Dr Sanib Said.
