MUKAH: Four foreigners were arrested for engaging in a cockfighting session at an oil palm plantation here yesterday (Mar 10).

Acting on public tip-offs, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) went to the scene around 4.30 pm and found that an open area had been turned into an illegal cockfighting arena.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that upon arrival, the team found a group of men in the middle of their gambling session.

Realising the presence of the police, the group quickly dispersed into the nearby bushes in an attempt to evade arrest.

“However, four men aged between 24 and 39, were quickly rounded up.

The open area in an oil palm plantation which was turned into an illegal cockfighting arena in Mukah.

“The police also seized two live and three dead roosters, two cockfighting spurs, a weighing scale and RM490 in cash,” he said.

Rizal added that the case is being investigated under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999, which provides for a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment up to six months or both, upon conviction.

The suspects are also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 as they did not have any valid travel documents.
