SRI AMAN: Exposure to various skill-sets will produce skilled and competitive human capital in the community.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah this would be in line with the Sarawak government’s aspiration to increase people’s income levels.
“Various strategies have been formulated to achieve this aspiration, including providing skills training centres in more areas as Sarawak Skills has done.
“Additionally, it is necessary to offer training programmes that can help youths or workers enhance their skill levels to keep up with current technological advancements,” he said.
He said this while officiating Sarawak Skills Sri Aman at Jalan Rambutan Simanggang here on Wednesday.
In this context Sagah expressed his appreciation to Sarawak Skills for providing opportunities and platforms to the residents around Sri Aman by organising short-term programmes that would enhance their skills.
“The current job market requires our workforce to possess diverse skills and meet the latest employer requirements. Workers now need to be more flexible, innovative and adaptable.
“The transformation strategy of human capital must focus on providing a direction towards a more productive, effective, skilled, and high-tech workforce, which will lead to an improvement in family income and living standards.
“It is targeted that 20 per cent of STPM graduates will venture into TVET fields in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, said skills programmes such as those on agriculture, electrical, culinary, and the like are highly suitable for the locals.
“Local talents, especially youths, should be nurtured from an early stage, and they should be given the opportunity to venture into fields of interest.
“Besides enhancing knowledge and skills, this will elevate the standard of living for families when these graduates eventually secure employment or enter the business field,” he said.
