Five men fined RM1, 000 each for affray

SIBU: Five men were each fined RM1,000, in default two months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today for committing affray.

Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry meted out the sentence after they all pleaded guilty to the joint charge read and explained to them through an interpreter.

Wong Hai Uong, 54, of Sibu Jaya, Yong Yew Tiing, 43, of Jalan Makmur, Christopian Idi, 40, of Sungai Pasai, Ling Hang Chai, 53, and Ling Kai Ning, 29, both from Jalan Ulu Sg Merah, were charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term which may extend to six months, or a fine of not more than RM1,000, or both upon conviction.

The joint charge against them stated that they had committed affray at an entertainment centre along Langsat Road on Mar 9 at about 12.30 am.

According to the facts of case, while the complainant with her family members were having drinks at the  entertainment centre, they were suddenly approached by some men.

Together with her husband and son, they were assaulted with a hard object but managed to escape from the scene in a car.

The complainant’s husband and son subsequently received medical treatment at a private hospital as they sustained injuries at several parts of the body. She then lodged a police report.

The cause of the fight was unknown and the entertainment centre was fitted with closed-circuit television (CCTV).

Police investigation revealed that all the five accused including the complainant’s husband, Ling Hang Chai and son, Ling Kai Ning had committed affray at public place.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Kumareswaran Murugan while all the accused who were unrepresented by any legal counsel, opted to pay the fine.
