THE aftermath of the fire at Rh Saba, Jalan Ensurai Sare in Sarikei.

SARIKEI: An elderly man was burnt to death in a fire at Rh Saba at Jalan Ensurai Sare here early yesterday.

Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department chief, PPgB Suna Kahar said the victim in the 10.00am incident was identified as Lowest Selin whose body was burnt beyond recognition.

He was believed to have gone back to his room to salvage some belongings.
It was reported that 100 per cent of the 17-door longhouse was destroyed by the fire.

Firefighters are looking at the charred remains of Lowest Selin.

Suna said there were a total of 96 people from 17 families staying at the longhouse and 73 of them were at home at the time of the incident.

He said 35 personnel were dispatched to the scene and the fire was brought under control at 11.25am.

Suna said a search for Lowest was made by the firefighters after the villagers informed them that he was last seen entering his room after the fire broke out.

His body was found at the second door of the burnt longhouse at around 2.10pm.

The charred remains were taken to Sarikei Hospital for further action and the cause of the fire was being investigated.
