KUCHING: The Eastern Field Command Headquarters of the Army (PMTTD) has successfully intercepted smuggling activity in Sector Op Jagakawan, Ba’kelalan, confiscating packages containing 150 cartons of cigarettes worth RM 8,250.

“The Malaysian Army (TDM), through a unit operating under the formation of the First Infantry Division of Malaysia (1 Division), successfully thwarted smuggling activities.

“At 1.30pm, a team of army personnel conducting patrol duties in Kg Punang Kelalan, Ba’kelalan, Sarawak, approximately 1,200 metres from the Indonesian border, discovered three suspicious black packages.

“Upon inspection, it was confirmed that the packages contained 150 cartons of cigarettes, with 100 cartons being of the Premium brand and another 50 cartons of the Era brand,” said PMTTD in a press statement today (Mar 23).

Subsequently a police report was filed at the Ba’kelalan police station, and all seized goods were handed over to the Customs authorities for further action.
