Sarawak advances hydrogen economy initiatives with H2biscus Project

KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is steadfast in its commitment to realising its hydrogen economy initiatives, notably the H2biscus Project in the state.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said these initiatives would contribute to the socio-economic development of Sarawak.

“H2biscus Project is a collaborative effort between the Sarawak government, through SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd.

“It also involved esteemed partners from South Korea, led by industry giants SAMSUNG Engineering, LOTTE, and Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC),” he said in a statement today (Mar 23) following a high-level discussions with South Korean delegations at the CERAWeek event in Houston, Texas on Mar 19.

The director-general of the Hydrogen Economy Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of South Korea Park Chan Ki had early made a courtesy call to the minister during the event.

The meeting focused on the H2biscus green hydrogen project in Sarawak, which has the potential to be a pioneering initiative on a global scale.

It also highlighted the collaborative spirit and shared commitment towards advancing sustainable energy solutions and fostering economic growth, marking a significant step forward in positioning Sarawak as a key player in the global hydrogen economy landscape.

Present during the courtesy call were also Sinae Sung from the Consulate General Office of the Republic of Korea in Houston, Jang Jin Hwan from KNOC, and Park C.H representing Samsung Engineering.

The Sarawak delegation were represented by Robert Hardin from SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd and Datuk Adrian Ching from Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation.
