SIBU: The Infak Baju Raya Al Bait project has benefited over 2,200 underprivileged families in Sarawak since its launch in Kuching last year.
The initiative, led by Yayasan Kepimpinan Al Bait (YKAB), operates in collaboration with Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).
TBS general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie said that the initiative has seen widespread support and expansion throughout the state, including major areas such as Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Mukah.
“Alhamdulillah, the community’s response has been excellent. To date, we have distributed a total of 12,700 sets of clothes, benefiting 2,200 families,” he said during a visit to the project venue after participating in the Majlis Iftar Perdana Bersama Asnaf at the Sibu Islamic Complex on Friday night.
He said that the project was inspired by noticing that many people in the community were willing to donate clothes that they had only worn once or twice.
“Through this project, the needy experience the joy of receiving better-quality clothing, including baju kurung, tudung, and more. There is a wide variety of clothing available not just for women but also for men, including baju Melayu, jubah, and kurta,” he added.
Mohd Shibli urged the public, especially the Muslim community, to donate clothes in good condition to YKAB.
“Here, we have the Ummah Distribution Centre and YKAB representatives on site. They are here to help store and ensure that the clothes are distributed in better condition,” he said.
