BAU: Traffic police identified the absence of licence plates and modified exhaust systems as the most common offences committed among motorcyclists, following an operation codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ last Friday (Mar 22).
In the operation, the Bau Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division issued a total of 23 summonses for various offences after inspecting 15 individuals and nine motorcycles.
The highest number of summonses, six each, was issued for failure to display licence plates and modified exhaust systems.
In addition, four summonses were issued for the lack of left and right mirrors, while 13 others were issued for other offences.
During the operation, police confiscated five motorcycles under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further examinations, and opened a case under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after a positive drug presence was detected in a urine test.
The four-hour operation, involving 36 traffic police officers, aimed to curb the activities of riders performing dangerous actions and address various traffic offences.
In light of this, all motorcyclists are urged to adhere to traffic laws and regulations for the safety of all road users.
