SIBU: Firemen successfully persuaded a man not to commit suicide at Sibu Gateway, Jalan Chamber here today (Mar 25).
Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 Chief Andy Alie said that a distress call was received at 1.44 pm, prompting the deployment of a team from Sibu Central Station to the location.
“Upon arrival, we found the man attempting suicide in a locked car,” he said.
After 33 minutes, the team was able to persuade the man to come out, and he was subsequently arrested.
Authorities later handed the man over to the police for further investigation.
The reasons behind the man’s distress remain unclear.
The operation concluded at 2.17 pm.
