KUCHING: An Indonesian man was sentenced to four months in prison today (Mar 25) by the Magistrate’s Court here for operating an online gambling machine using a mobile phone.
Dino, 25, from Sambas, Indonesia, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the accused to begin his sentence from the date of his arrest on February 5.
The charges stated that he committed the offense at a business premises on Jalan Semarak here at around 2.15 pm, on February 5.
According to case details, a police team raided an unnamed business premises and arrested Dino, who was at the shop counter, on suspicion of involvement in online gambling activities.
Items seized during the raid included RM81 in cash and a mobile phone.
Following the investigation, gambling experts confirmed that the mobile phone had been used as a gambling machine to facilitate online gambling.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while Dino was not represented by legal counsel.
