KUCHING: Sarawak has shown its commitment to sustainability through the adoption of electric motorcycles.
Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that this initiative, aimed at conserving fuel, slashing maintenance costs, and supporting the local economy.
“This initiative not only positions Sarawak as a prime destination for eco-tourism by allowing visitors to explore our pristine landscapes sustainably but also aligns with our state’s dedication to addressing global environmental concerns,” he said at the Ebixon Electric Motorcycle at the Borneo Cultural Museum today (Mar 26).
He outlined the Sarawak government’s proactive steps towards promoting electric vehicle usage.
“Our efforts, whether through the events like the Rainforest World Music Festival or various seminars, are all directed towards fostering responsible tourism and sustainability,” he added.
This approach, he said, is in sync with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s discussions on green hydrogen energy, highlighting Sarawak’s dedication to preserving a clean environment.
Abdul Karim further emphasised the global movement towards reducing environmental pollution through the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles.
“Across the globe, from Europe to America and China, there is a concerted push towards minimising environmental degradation. This is evident in the support for manufacturing vehicles, be it motorcycles or cars, that are equipped with environmentally friendly engines,” he added.
