KUCHING: The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 (PPMW5) is set to bolster security and safety patrols across state waters and rivers as the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season approaches.
Sarawak Police Commissioner CP Datuk Mancha Ata said the force has made preparations to deploy 15 patrol boats for these operations.
With the Hari Raya celebration approaching, he said security control will be upheld as standard procedure.
“From Telok Melano to Kuala Lawas, the marine police will intensify security measures in Sarawak waters as well as river areas, with emphasis on national border control, especially at the Indonesia-Malaysia border.
“Additionally, enforcement of marine laws such as the Fisheries Act 1985 and the Merchant Shipping Ordinance will be prioritised during the patrols,” he said when met by reporters last night (Mar 26).
Yesterday, Mancha and his wife Datin Jennita William attended a breaking of fast meal with marine police personnel onboard the PA 17 marine patrol boat after cruising along Sarawak river.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Datuk Ibrahim Darus, Sarawak PPMW5 commander ACP Abdul Rahman Mat Hassan, and Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Wong Ing Fung.
In conjunction with the Ramadan month, Mancha said the Sarawak Contingent police headquarters (IPK) had organised several initiatives to support frontline personnel engaged in operations at the field.
“We have organised various programme to show solidarity with our frontline personnel, including breaking of fast meals. These efforts will be carried out periodically, involving other formations in the contingent as well,” he said.
