JAKARTA: An ammunition storage warehouse belonging to the military in Bogor, West Java, reportedly exploded and caught fire on Saturday at 7.05 pm local time, according to the Indonesian Army.

Spokesman Brigadier-General Kristomei Sianturi said the warehouse, belonging to the Jayakarta Military District Command (Kodam Jaya), is located in the Gunung Putri area in Bogor district, bordering Bekasi.

“Currently, there are still small fires and explosions,” he said as quoted by the detiknews news portal.

A detailed investigation is underway, including the evacuation of residents around the warehouse, and the handling of the fire.

“Preliminary analysis found that the cause of the incident was due to expired ammunition stored in the bunker and scheduled to be disposed of,” said Kodam Jaya Commander Major-General Mohamad Hasan.

He said there were no victims in the incident.

A number of fire engines rushed to the scene and extinguishing work will be carried out when the explosion subsides to avoid any unwanted risk.
