KOTA KINABALU: A man sustained burns to his face, neck, shoulders and arms, suspected to be caused by an electric shock while trying to steal cables at a Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) substation in Kampung Gentisan early this morning.
Kota Kinabalu district deputy police chief Supt Kalsom Idris, said villagers were aware of the incident at 3am after hearing a loud explosion before the electricity supply was cut off.
“The villagers heard cries for help and found a man in his 30s in pain with skin burns.
“Another accomplice is believed to have been injured too, but managed to flee before the police arrived,” she said when contacted by reporters here yesterday.
She said the suspect sustained second to third-degree burns and was taken to Likas Hospital, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code for commiting mischief.
She urged the public to refrain from stealing electrical cables, emphasiing that it poses risks to themselves and constitutes a criminal offence that inconveniences the community. — BERNAMA
