KUCHING: Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah called on the public not resort to violent act when faced with sensitive issues.
She pointed out that Kuching is recognised as a city of unity and that anything with elements of violence must be prevented for the common good of every citizen.
“For our ministry, we fight for unity, inclusivity and social well-being. Therefore, I call for no violence when faced with an issue. No violence to our children, to our women, to the elderly.
“We don’t want to see it, and of course, violence should be prevented at any cause,” she cautioned when asked by the media about the incident of a KK Super Mart convenience store at Jalan Satok here which was thrown with a molotov cocktail that resulted in a small fire.
She said this when met by the media after attending the ‘Device Handover Session: Empowering Sarawak’s Future-Kids Bits and Bytes Digital Literacy Programme Takes a Lead Forward’ at Baitulmakmur Building II yesterday.
Earlier this week, a KK Super Mart convenience store in Jalan Satok endured a small fire due to a Molotov being thrown at the entrance of the store.
Kuching police chief, ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the incident was reported by a 25-year-old man who was an employee of the convenience store involved.
He said, the complainant reported that a carton of drinking water which was placed at the entrance of the convenience store was on fire after the molotov attack.
The police are now actively tracking down the suspect and the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years and fine.
