Tenants subdue would-be robber in Batu Kawa burglary

PADAWAN: A burglary attempt turned sour for an Indonesian man in Batu Kawa when tenants of the house fought back, subduing and apprehending him after he entered armed with a screwdriver and knife.

The incident happened around 1.30am yesterday (Apr 9) when a masked assailant forcibly entered the house.

Acting Padawan police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong in a statement, said that the suspect in his 30s had entered a room and assaulted two men aged 26 and 27.

He stated that the victims, however, managed to fight back when the intruder was attempting to restrain them.

“The suspect was overpowered and apprehended by the tenants and was later handed over to the police.

“Both victims only sustained minor injuries in the altercation,” he said.

Lim pointed out that the foreigner is being remanded for six days until Apr 15 to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing injury during a robbery, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having a valid travel document.

Earlier, a 6.41-minute video clip depicting the suspect being tied up in the kitchen of the house, had gone viral on social media.

The footage not only showed the aftermath of the incident but also showcased the injuries sustained by the victims – one with head injuries and the other with injuries to the arm.

It also explained how the incident transpired and that the suspect had entered the house through the back door, with intent to commit harm.
