The rapid rise in population, urbanisation, and industrial activities has led to an increased production of waste, posing a significant challenge to environmental sustainability.
In response to this, Timuran Kembangan Sdn. Bhd., a local enterprise based in Kuching, has emerged as a pioneer in the recycling of used oil from both industrial and domestic sources. Founded in June 2020, the company is dedicated to supporting the Sarawak government’s environmental sustainability goals.
Its chairman Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said the company’s vision is to become the foremost waste management entity in Sarawak, championing sustainable practices for a cleaner future.
“Our mission aligns with the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s Environmental Sustainability goals outlined in the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030). We employ advanced technology to recycle used oil into fuel for industries such as construction,” he said.
Rahman, who co-founded the company with Johnny Ting Su King, highlighted their significant role in the fuel industry, with their recycled oil product being utilised in various industrial applications, particularly in construction.
“Our recycled oil enhances the efficiency and performance of boilers and other equipment across several industries,” he noted, listing clients such as SEDC Premix Sdn. Bhd. and Musyati Sdn. Bhd., among others.
Meanwhile, managing director Ting said the company employs a comprehensive waste collection process, covering a wide range of materials, including used lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, and oil-water mixtures.
“Our team covers every corner of the city and villages to collect waste, which is then processed into fuel oil,” Ting said.
To bolster its waste collection services, Timuran Kembangan Sdn. Bhd. has expanded its presence to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, while maintaining operations in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.
The collected oil is sent to Kuala Lumpur for refining and the company boasts a production capacity of 500,000 litres of LFO 20cst – LF oil per month, serving industrial needs across Sarawak.
Looking ahead, Rahman revealed plans to establish an in-house refinery in the Demak Laut industrial area to reduce dependency on external processors and create job opportunities for locals.
“This initiative will not only secure the industry’s future but also promote environmental conservation. We are hopeful for the Sarawak government’s support in developing this plant,” Rahman said.
In recognition of their efforts towards environmental conservation and local industry support, Timuran Kembangan Sdn. Bhd. was awarded the ‘G Forty Top 40 Corporate Achievement’ at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, with Ting receiving the accolade on behalf of the company.
