KUCHING: A Sarawakian dance prodigy, Cordelia Wee Lin Xin who made her debut in the national ranking dance event has made the state proud after winning the National Closed Adult Solo Latin competition, a top solo category in the country, as well as achieving the third ranking in the Malaysia Dance Sport Federation (MYDF).
The 21 year-old part time dance choreographer also qualified for the final and was placed sixth in the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) Open International Adult Solo Latin category.
“I am delighted for the achievement in the national ranking event, it adds more valuable experience for me to share with my younger students,” she said in a press release by Sarawak Dance Sport Association (SDA).
The just concluded Bailando Open Dance Sport Championship (BOC) 2024 was held at Paradigm Mall, Johor Bahru last weekend.
It featured MYDF Closed National Ranking and WDSF Open International events for various age group levels that included Juvenile, Junior, Youth, Under-21 and Adult categories.
Last year, Wee secured third place in the Vietnam International Adult Solo Latin, second in the Sarawak Championship and champion in the Sabah Championship in November.
SDA president, Chester Lim applauded the Sarawak Dance Sport athletes who have consistently showcased their potentials by delivering impressive performances at both national and international competitions throughout the years.
“The level of competition has significantly risen over the years, posing a greater challenge for dancers as the number of participants has increased,” he said.
Lim, who is also MYDF secretary-general cited that athletes and coaches need to stay updated on the evolving trends in order to maintain consistent performance.
There were other standout participants at the Bailando Open Dance Sport Championship 2024.
“Amber Tan achieved great results by winning gold in Quickstep, silvers in Waltz and Slow Foxtrot and bronze medals in Tango and Viennese Waltz,” according to SDA statement.
Meanwhile, Vincent Bong entered all five finals and finished sixth place in the BOC Open Solo Youth Standard dances of Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep.
Another dancer, Eunice Ling achieved an impressive fourth place in the BOC Junior II Cha Cha and a fifth place in the MYDF Junior II solo.
