GEORGE TOWN: Chinese New Year “ang pows” (red packets) came early for 2,000 senior citizens of all races at the Penang Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society here.

The society has collected the donations from well-wishers over the year and distributed it yesterday to 2,000 senior citizen aged 65 and above in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year on February 5.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who distributed the “ang pows”, said to be of the service to the aged and disadvantaged in society is indeed a blessed privilege for those with the means.

“I applaud Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society for holding steadfastly to its guiding principles over the years to unwaveringly help those in need,” he said in a speech during the presentation of Spring Fest Red Packets to senior citizens here yesterday.

Later, Chow also presented a cheque of RM15,000 each to 12 welfare organisations from collections raised during the 2018 Harmony Charity Food Fair. – Bernama
