SEMATAN: A total of 14,000 lampam jawa fish fry were released into the river of Kampung Sebako here, recently.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang who inaugurated the Tagang system for the village said the system has the primary objective of conserving and rehabilitating river ecosystems and its surrounding areas.
“The system, which releases fish fry aims to create a conducive habitat for aquaculture ecosystems.
“This is also to preserve the aesthetic value of the Sebako area, which has the potential to become a popular eco-tourism destination,” he said.
He added that ecosystem conservation and rehabilitation through the Tagang system are also aimed at preventing the extinction of flora and fauna species in the area in future.
“Through this system, villagers indirectly benefit, particularly as a major source of protein, financial resources for the Sebako Tagang committee, and help increase the value of eco-tourism in Kampung Sebako itself,” he said.
Adding, he said the introduction of the system will also foster a sense of responsibility among local residents for environmental conservation, especially river cleanliness, and preventing river pollution.
The Kampung Sebako Tagang system has been operational since November 8, 2018, and stretches 1.5 kilometers along the Sebako river.
