KUCHING: A 46-year-old man was arrested to assist in the investigation into several social media posts containing threats and insults to the premier, deputy premier and the federal minister of works.

According to reports on April 19 by the Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata said the investigation papers will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further instructions.

“The Sarawak Contingent Police have received (7) police reports related to a posting made on social media containing threats and insults against Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“The case is investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code which is the offence of criminal intimidation by anonymous communication and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which is the improper use of network facilities and others,” he said

In connection with this, the police advised the public to avoid making any speculations and to avoid spreading false information that could disturb public peace.
