KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has not yet decided whether it will support its federal allies in the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election in Selangor, according to Deputy Prime Minister and GPS chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“We haven’t received any direction so far, so I don’t want to comment… We’ll wait and see,” he told reporters at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim at his service centre here on Sunday.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat became vacant following the death of incumbent, Democratic Action Party (DAP) assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong, on March 21.
The Election Commission has scheduled the nomination day and early voting for the by-election on April 27 and May 7, respectively.
In a related announcement on March 22, Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the coalition would not contest the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat, instead allowing the incumbent party to field a candidate.
The DAP is expected to announce its candidate for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) on Wednesday (Apr 24).
