KUCHING: Traffic police have arrested two motorists for allegedly operating their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.
According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the operation, codenamed ‘Op Mabuk,’ took place along Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho from 11 pm on Saturday (Apr 20) until 2 am on Sunday (Apr 21).
During the operation, the police stopped a driver and a motorcyclist for preliminary tests to detect alcohol content in their systems.
The results indicated that both individuals had alcohol levels exceeding the permissible limit.
Consequently, the motorists were arrested under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol. This offense carries penalties of up to a RM10,000 fine or up to five years’ imprisonment, and a potential five-year license disqualification upon conviction.
