SIBU: Rapaiee Tarip, father of the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, was interred at the Kemuyang Islamic Cemetery around 1.15 pm today (Apr 22).
Rapaiee, who was 94, died early this morning at Sibu Hospital.
Dr. Annuar, the youngest of among his siblings, reflected on his father’s health before his passing.
“Although he was 94 years old, he was still energetic, able to drive, go to the bank, and cook. However, before the fasting month, he started getting sick,” Dr. Annuar told reporters at the funeral.
A weeklong recitation ceremony is scheduled at Dr. Annuar’s residence on Jalan Kangkong here.
Before the funeral, traditional rites were performed on Rapaiee’s body, including washing and shrouding, at his home.
The ceremony was attended by almost 400 guests, including political secretary to the Premier, Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, Temenggong Datu Vincent Lau Lee Ming and Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai.
Rapaiee is survived by his wife, Fatimah Othman, five sons, a daughter and more than 20 grandchildren.
