KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has clarified his statement regarding the PDP- Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) merger.
Referring to an FMT report recently titled ‘Tiong open to PDP-PRS merger’, he wished to clarify that his statement was made in response to a reporter’s question on the Julau MP’s comments on the prospect of a PDP-PRS merger.
“I had made no mention of PRS in my response to FMT nor was I referring specifically to PRS.
“But as a general statement, PDP’s door is open to any party and any party is free to talk about it,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page today.
Tiong said PDP is wholly focused on pursuing the development of Sarawak and the people’s welfare in harmony, in one Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) spirit, and in full support of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership.
“There is no gain in further complicating the issue and I hope all can move on.
“Again, I reiterate that I was merely responding to a reporter’s question during the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) open house who asked for my response on (Julau MP) Larry Sng’s comments on a potential merger between PDP and PRS. His comments are his own and I do not wish to add further,” said Tiong.
