BINTULU: Strong winds and thunderstorms tore off the roofs of two school buildings at SK Pandan Sebauh and affected several houses in Kampung Pandan on Wednesday (Apr 24).
 
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 4.30 pm incident.
 
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Bintulu station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.
 
Upon arrival, they found that sudden heavy rain and strong winds had blown off the roofs of the two school buildings, which accommodate 111 pupils.
 
The winds also caused severe damages to the school furniture, floors and other electrical equipment.
 
All the dormitory students were accounted for and gathered in a safe area under the supervision of the warden.
 
Only 21 pupils were still in the school while, the rest returned to their respective homes.
 
The incident also damaged eight other houses involving 29 residents.
 
The residents are currently staying with their relatives.
