BAU: Police have arrested a local man for allegedly stealing a lorry parked in front of a house in Kampung Skibang last Friday (Apr 26).
Bau police chief DSP Jawai Francis said that they were alerted by members of the public regarding the incident around 9.30pm.
Acting on information, police managed to pick up the suspect along with the stolen lorry near the Suba intersection.
“During questioning, the suspect admitted to the theft of the lorry from the victim’s residence in Kampung Skibang.
“Further checks found that the suspect had no prior criminal records,” he said.
Jawai pointed out that the suspect is being remanded until May 1 to facilitate investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle.
If convicted, he can be sentenced to prison for a term of up to seven years and be subject to a fine.
