MUKAH: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) has arrested four men and seized 22,000 cartons of various duty-not-paid liquor at a wharf along Jalan Old Ferry on Friday (May 3).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhammad Rizal Alias, in a statement, said that the raid was carried out at around 7.30 pm.
Further inspections led to the discovery of assorted liquors in 10 containers which are suspected to be duty-not-paid items.
“The total seizure value, inclusive of the liquors, a barge, two lorries and 10 trailers, is estimated to be around RM11,327,200.
“During the raid, the team managed to arrest three locals and one foreigner after failing to present any valid documents from the Customs Department,” he said.
All the suspects, aged between 43 and 59, are being remanded for six days until May 10 to facilitate investigations.
Rizal added that the seizures and arrests were handed over to Mukah Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
