THE development of Senior Citizen Activity Centres (PAWE) and the KEMAS Community Activity Centre (PKM) at the Belaga resettlement scheme  in Sungai Asap is currently in the planning stage.

Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam said the Department of Community Development (KEMAS) has identified a suitable site, but approval needs to be obtained from the relevant parties.

He said the construction of the KEMAS Community Activity Centre (PKM) is subject to land site preparation, site ownership of the Temporary Occupation License (TOL) status and project implementation approval.

“Care centres can be operated either by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or private care centres. However, the state government has yet to receive any application to establish a care centre in the area.

“The Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) has established Senior Citizen Activity Centres as community-level social support programmes aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the elderly.

”PAWE fosters social interaction among senior citizens, their peers, family, and the local community, promoting the concept of active and productive aging,” he added.

He was replying to a question from Kennedy Chukpai Ugon (GPS-Murum) today.

Razi proposed that a protem  committee be established for the Welfare Voluntary Organisation (PSK) before establishing the PAWE for the Belaga district.
