FEW road construction projects in Sibu will be tendered in June, said Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.
He said the Ministry of Rural Development and Territorial Malaysia is currently processing a Notice of Change (NOC) application to increase the project cost for the construction of Rh. Jingga, David Multifarm, Rh. Seli, Rh. Guang, and SK Singat Road in Sg. Lengan from RM70 million to RM80 million.
He assured that the construction works would commence in September 2024 if the application is approved this May.
“There is an additional scope of work following a review of the alignment due to riverbank erosion incidents that occurred in September 2023 in the area.
“Additionally, there is a need to construct a spur road in two settlement areas upon the request of local residents,” he said.
He mentioned this in reply to Safiee Ahmad (GPS-Daro) during the question-and-answer session at the august House fifth sitting today.
On the same note, he clarified that the key components of these projects comprised the construction of a 9.6km gravel road, a 1.9km spur road, a concrete bridge, and the construction of retaining structures, roadside drains and road furniture.
