KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian is the inaugural recipient of the Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM) Leadership Award.
In his Facebook post today, Dr Sim said he was “deeply honoured and privileged” at receiving the prestigious award.
“This recognition acknowledges the dedication, passion, and perseverance of each member of my team at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC), Sarawak General Hospital, over the past 20 years, starting in 2003, amidst the challenges of the Borneo Jungle,” he said.
Dr Sim also noted CRM’s achievements, saying that during the CRM Trial ‘Connect’ meeting, attended by over 1,000 medical professionals, CRM was recognised as the ‘Top Investigator of the Year’ and ‘Top Study Site’ by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
He also highlighted Sarawak Heart Centre (PJS)’s recent successes at the annual National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM) Scientific Congress, demonstrating the significant contributions made by Sarawakians to their community.
Dr Sim congratulated CRM, a wholly-owned entity of the MoH, for its remarkable achievements since its establishment in 2012. He noted that more than 2,400 clinical trials had been conducted in Malaysia, making it the second-largest in the region.
“With over 260 private and public hospitals and health clinics engaged in clinical research, and more than 26,000 patients participating in trials, CRM has created over 2,700 skilled and specialised jobs,” he said.
Dr Sim said that CRM managed to be Malaysia’s regional hub for data management, clinical development, and central lab services, with cumulative revenue reaching RM1.16 billion by 2023, a significant increase from RM250 million in 2017.
