MIRI: Today (May 12), the BEM Church on Jalan Airport here became the solemn setting for the arrival of the remains of late Senate President Datuk Mutang Tagal, marking the commencement of the funeral proceedings.
The casket was transported via the Malaysian Air Force’s aircraft, Hercules, landing at Miri airport at 10.40am.
Leading the attendees paying their last respects were prominent figures including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, along with other dignitaries.
Tomorrow, the formal funeral service will take place at BEM Canada Hill Church, with the casket scheduled to arrive at 10.20am.
Following the service, a procession will move to the Golden Hill Memorial Park burial ground, where Datuk Mutang Tagal will be laid to rest at 12:30 pm.
The late Datuk Mutang Tagal, who served as Senate President, passed away at the age of 70 after being hospitalised at the National Heart Institute Kuala Lumpur (IJN) since May 6.
The Parliament of Malaysia announced his passing on May 10 at 11:46 am at IJN Kuala Lumpur.
