KOTA SAMARAHAN: The first HSL Samarahan Marathon wrapped up successfully, drawing over 2,000 participants from diverse countries including Singapore and Africa to the two-day fitness festival.
Lukas Mutati from Kenya took the top spot in the men’s category with an impressive time of 2:42:47.
Dorcas Tarus secured victory in the women’s category.
In the half marathon, Muhammad Asyraf won the men’s title with a time of 1:17:19, while Sally Ann Yap Yu Ing led the women with a time of 1:35:25.
Muhammad Shahir and Hii Win Nie were the victors in the 10km mini marathon for men and women respectively.
The event distributed a total prize pool of nearly RM60,000 across various categories, including open and veteran divisions.
The Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, alongside Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman Datuk Peter Minos and HSL Reality Sdn Bhd director and co-chair of the marathon organising committee, Yu Ji, presented cash prizes.
Wendel Chan from Kuching City Joggers Club thanked HSL for their sponsorship, which was essential in organising the marathon.
The festival began with an exciting fun run and also featured a special award for Voon Kim Choon’s imaginative costumes.
