KOTA SAMARAHAN: Swift actions by a shopping mall security guard led to the arrest of a local man for allegedly stealing from a Sarawak Energy substation yesterday (May 14).

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin said the incident happened around 8.10 am during a patrol around the shopping mall.

The guard spotted the suspect inside the fenced substation, which was located at the side of the mall.

“The 34-year-old suspect attempted to flee the scene but he was swiftly caught by the guard.

“Police were alerted and the suspect was re-arrested by the Kota Samarahan mobile patrol unit.

“Also seized from him were some tools used to cut wires and copper, and a motorcycle,” he said.

The suspect was taken to the Kota Samarahan district police headquarters (IPD) for further action.

Background checks showed that the suspect had six prior records related to theft and substance abuse.

Jaimi added that the suspect will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

The suspect’s tools believed to be used to cut wires and copper.
