THE Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development has diligently worked to reduce critically delayed projects, resulting in a reduction from 22 to just 11 delayed projects from January to April this year.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that two were state projects, while nine involved federal projects.

“This achievement was made possible through Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Sarawak implementing a few measures.

“Some of the measures taken were ensuring contractors were paid on time to create a conducive work environment, implementing close monitoring of projects in ensuring prompt work progress, and a One-Month-Intervention Pledge by the contractors and JKR.

“These efforts have improved project efficiency and exemplified our commitment to delivering quality outcomes within the stipulated time frames.

“My ministry will continue to monitor all the projects to ensure that they are completed expeditiously,” he said.

He asserted this during his ministerial winding-up speech in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (May 15).

Uggah who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development stated a total of 24 projects have been terminated, out of which 15 were funded by the state while nine were funded by the federal government.

He also mentioned the reappointment of the 15 projects which have been revived and nine were in the pre-contract stages.

“The process of termination and appointment to rescue contractors for the federal projects are more complex.

“The lengthy termination process for the federal procedures has caused the delay in reviving those projects,” said Uggah.
