MIRI: A man was lucky to escape unhurt after the Proton Persona car he was travelling in caught fire in a freak incident at Jalan Piasau Utara here yesterday morning.
In the incident that occurred at around 6.30am, the man in his 40s was heading to Jalan Pujut 7 from Piasau Utara when he saw smoke billowing from the engine compartment.
He immediately stopped the vehicle at the roadside and called for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) for help.
Lopeng Fire Station chief, PKPB Terry Robson said eight personnel led by PBKII Ellai Bidang were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 6.32am.
“Upon arrival, we found that the vehicle was already 100 per cent damaged by the fire.
“We took less than 10 minutes to bring the fire under control and the operation ended at 7.19am,” he said, adding that the total loss and cause of the fire were still under investigation.
