SIBU: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) distributed a total of RM1mil in funds to the Sarawak Iban Annual Conference (SIAC) Methodist Church Sibu here on today (May 20).
According to Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, the funds were distributed for the second phase of upgrading works.
“This includes upgrading its hostel, conference room, and meeting room. During the first phase of upgrading work, Unifor also presented RM1mil, mainly to upgrade its administrative block and more.”
The Nangka assemblyman said this when met by the media after a cheque handover ceremony.
He stressed that the funds were used to ensure that the church has a more conducive environment for Christians to worship well.
Meanwhile, SIAC president Rev Bonnie Sedau said that the estimated total cost for the project was RM2.2mil.
“Currently, the project is 80 per cent complete. We hope that with the funds given, we can resume the upgrading work and expect to complete it by July or the end of June.”
He said that upon completion, the building, which was first built in 1972, will not only be equipped with more facilities but also have a conference room that can accommodate around 100 to 200 people.
