KUCHING: Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) has contributed RM2 million in zakat this year to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).
The contribution was handed over by BPA chairman Datuk Sharkawi Alis to TBS representative, Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datuk Misnu Taha, witnessed by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Astana today.
Sharkawi said that the contribution is the largest compared to previous years.
“Moreover, a total of RM1.8 million was redistributed to BPA for us to provide assistance to asnaf and people in need directly under our corporate social responsibility (CSR),” he said.
On its CSR programme, he said that the amount would be used to support 50 asnaf and needy groups, including those requiring wheelchairs and medicines for chronic patients.
