KUCHING: A three-day exhibition in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2024 is set to become the center of attention at the main atrium of Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre here, from May 25.
A total of 20 exhibition booths will enliven the HAWANA 2024 celebration, and will be open from 10am to 5pm.
Among the items to be showcased are old media equipment that were popular in their time, such as old cameras, radios, recording devices, video cameras, as well as the history of media establishment in Sarawak.
Additionally, various programmes will be held such as interviews in the studio, stage events, and visitors will have the opportunity to experience reading news professionally at the UKAS exhibition booth.
The public, especially communication studies students, are invited to visit the exhibition booths.
Seventeen agencies will be involved in the three-day exhibition, showcasing their services and offering visitors the chance to obtain various information and participate in activities.
The agencies involved include the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), TVS, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak, National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) Sarawak, Department of Information (JaPen) Sarawak, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM), Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), and Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA).
CATSfm, Borneo Post, Utusan Borneo, See Hua, New Sarawak Tribune, Suara Sarawak, Sin Chew Daily, Utusan Sarawak, Kupi-Kupi fm, National Union of Journalists Malaysia (NUJM), and UDA Holdings are also participating in the exhibition.
The HAWANA 2024 exhibition will be officiated by Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, on May 25.
Deputy Minister in the Premier Sarawak’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, is also expected to be present at the opening ceremony.
The HAWANA 2024 grand ceremony is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 27.
