KUCHING: South Korea and Sarawak have agreed to continue strengthening economic cooperation, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that efforts toward this direction were discussed in a meeting between the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Sarawak Government today (May 22).

He said during the meeting, it was discussed that Korean companies would cooperate with Sarawak companies, particularly SEDC Energy, in transitioning to green energy sources.

”SEDC’s subsidiary will supply hydrogen gas and ammonia for use in Korea as part of the country’s effort to transition from coal to renewable sources,” he said.

Abang Johari, who is on a two-day working visit to Korea, said this during an interview with TVS reporters accompanying his entourage.

Earlier in the visit, Abang Johari and his team spent an hour inspecting the Yongheung power plant facility located on Yongheung Island in the south of the city.

Abang Johari was accompanied by the Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
