KUCHING: Journalists play a significant role in nation-building, especially in disseminating government policies, initiatives, and programmes for the well-being of the people and the prosperity of the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof expressed his appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of journalists and media organisations who consistently commit themselves to delivering accurate information, truthful news, and precise data to the public.

“In this digital era, where everything is accessible at our fingertips, I fully understand the challenges faced by journalists.

“However, I believe you all are capable of overcoming any forthcoming challenges, thereby ensuring that the media industry in our country remains relevant and preferred.

“I pray that all journalists remain resilient and steadfast, always adhering to journalistic ethics and accountability in fulfilling their entrusted responsibilities,” he said in his Facebook post today in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2024.

He said the theme for HAWANA 2024, ‘Ethics: The Core of Sustainable Journalism’, should serve as a benchmark and a collective reminder to journalists on the importance of upholding ethical reporting and delivery.

“Maintaining integrity to ensure the information presented is authentic, beneficial, and responsible, while avoiding mere ‘click-bait’ content, is crucial.

“May the duties you carry out be blessed. Happy National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2024,” he added.
