KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas advised the public to exercise caution when heading home to their longhouses and villages during the Gawai celebration period.

He said that citizens should check the weather forecast before beginning their journey back to their hometowns.

“If it is predicted to be raining, all concerned should be cautious over the possible occurrence of flood or landslide.

“Apart from that, make sure your vehicles are in good conditions to drive to avoid accidents on the road,” he said in his Gawai Dayak message.

Apart from that, Uggah mentioned that he and other Dayak leaders will be hosting a Gawai Dayak Open House at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 1 from 10 am to 4 pm.

He also stated the public is welcomed to join the celebration alongside distinguished guests like Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jafaar and wife, Puan Seri Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife, Datuk Amar Jumaani Tun Tuanku Bujang and representatives of the state government and their spouses and local dignitaries.
