MUKAH: Collaboration between longhouse chiefs and grassroots leaders to develop rural areas is crucial, especially in the remote areas.
Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said this and urged the community to fully support the representatives in their efforts to develop rural areas.
“I see that the longhouse areas in Ulu Sebakong are very far from the city, far from development, and it is quite difficult for us to implement immediate projects, thus it will undoubtedly take time.
“As such, we need the cooperation from the longhouse chiefs and grassroots leaders to facilitate in developing our area,” he said.
He stated this during the MADANI Community Programme organised by the Mukah District Information Department on Thursday (May 30).
Royston added that the 105 longhouses and eight standalone houses in his constituency should enjoy the benefits of development together.
Additionally, he said the MADANI Community Programme included talks on current issues, educational and career exhibitions, fire prevention demonstrations, and free health checks held at Richard Kilat Madang longhouse, Sebakong in Mukah.
The event involved 14 agencies, including the Social Welfare Department, Mukah District Police headquarters (IPD), Mukah District office, Bank Rakyat Mukah branch, Mukah Division Health office, Centre For Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS), Fire Department, Polytechnic, and several other agencies.
