KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and Fudan University in China will host the Asian Cultural Heritage Youth Forum 2024 from October 1 to 5.
The forum was officially launched at the campus here yesterday (May 31) by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
“I urge both Swinburne Sarawak and Fudan University to leverage each other’s experience and expertise in various fields to promote sustainable development. Such collaborations are vital in addressing global challenges and fostering innovation and growth in our respective countries.
“We are very grateful that they (youth) will be coming to Sarawak even though we are in the jungle in Borneo. This will also help us in terms of sharing what Sarawak has to offer,” he told a press conference after the launch and a Memorandum Signing Ceremony between the two institutions.
The forum will serve as a platform for over 100 university students from 20 countries to exchange best practices in cultural heritage protection and utilisation, and strengthen cultural exchanges.
Support for the forum comes from the China Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts.
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Professor Lau Hieng Ho for Swinburne Sarawak and Professor Huang Yang, Dean of the Department of History at Fudan University.
Also present at the event were chairman of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus Board of Directors Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew and Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee.
