SIBU: The government has approved and initiated the construction of the Jalan Sg Bidut/Kpg Tutus/Kpg Sebedil/Kpg Bungan Kecil project, with a budget of RM400 million.
Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh the first phase of the project, spanning 23 kilometres and costing RM104.5 million, is expected to be completed by next month. Subsequent phases will follow.
“When fully completed, road facilities, other infrastructure such as water and electricity will also follow suit.
“I hope we will all come together behind the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), and give full support to the government so that we can work together to serve our community in the Bawang Assan area better,” he said.
Wong said this while attending the MOTAC Programme with the Community @ Bawang Assan at Catherine Tamoh longhouse, Sungai Aup here, today (June 3).
The programme was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
Wong said Bawang Assan is a large area that includes Sibu town, mostly Chinese residents living on both banks of the Rajang River and the Igan River, as well as villages along the coast.
He explained that the area also includes Sungai Aup and along the Pasai Siong area and its surroundings.
“I have to say that now most areas have been equipped with infrastructure facilities except for areas that are far away and difficult to access such as the residents of the road project (Jalan Sg. Bidut/Kpg Tutus/Kpg Sebedil/Kpg Bungan Kecil),” Wong added.
