GPS born to seek return of rights lost over 55 years: Assemblyman

BAU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will not dwell in the past and blame past leaders for what the state has lost over a 55-year period.

Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh (pic) said GPS is a new ship whose mission is to sail the political sea of Sarawak’s lost rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Penang, Kelantan, Johor, Sabah have their own rights that they are defending. We Sarawakians, too, need to fight for what belongs to us,” he said during the GPS Flag Rally at the Bau Civic Centre yesterday.

He said Sarawak’s rights to its oil and gas must be returned in full.

“We will set a time frame, perhaps a year, perhaps two years for the federal government to give us back our rights. We are not here to play the string-pulling games now. We have no time for that,” he pointed out.

Miro, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy youth chief, said GPS needs to stand strong and be united to make sure Sarawak’s rights are completely restored.

He said after 55 years Sarawakians have grown out of their political ignorance and immaturity, and consequently GPS was born.

“GPS knows if we are being bullied. We know if people are serious about giving back those rights. We know if they are dragging their feet, and we are on a specific mission, which is GPS wants those rights returned,” he said.

“You people keep saying that we are old wine in a new bottle. What about Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad? You forget you recycle an old man to become the prime minister again, as if Malaysia doesn’t have any young people to lead,” he said, adding if it worked for the Bersatu chairman, it surely works for the leaders of GPS.
