KUCHING: A pile of old books was destroyed in a fire at a commercial centre along Jalan Pending, here last night (June 4).
The incident, which did not involve any injuries or casualties, happened around 8.20 pm.
Firefighters from Padungan station were dispatched to the scene, about 4km away, after they received a distress call.
Upon arrival, they found that the fire took place on the second floor of a premises, causing about 30 per cent damage to the floor.
The flames were brought under control at 8.50 pm and overhaul works followed to ensure that there was no risk of reignition.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
