Police pick up underage autism boy who drove dad’s car alone for joyride

SIBU: The underage boy in a video which went viral for driving his father’s car alone and saying, “There are no police here, I just want to drive” when confronted, has finally met with the police.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 11-year old boy was tracked down with the help of his parents yesterday (June 5) at 6.50 pm for investigation and further action.

“The boy suffers from autism and has medical records with the Psychiatry Specialist Clinic, Sibu Hospital,” he said in a statement today.

Police have issued a summons under Section 26(1)B of the Road Transport Act 1987 to the boy’s father for allowing his son to drive without a licence.

“We advise the public not to speculate about the viral video and assure that they are handling the matter professionally,” he said.

The boy went viral on Facebook yesterday after two short videos of 30 seconds and 27 seconds, of him were uploaded by a member of the public.

In the 30-second video clip, the boy, was seen driving his father’s car solo and stopped by a man in front of a bank, but the boy nonchalantly drove away.

Meanwhile, in the 27 seconds video, several individuals were seen confronting the boy, including a man believed to be his father.
