LIMBANG: The Limbang Town Square here is set to be completed at the end of this month.
Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said this project is one of the eagerly awaited projects by the Limbang community, as it is a complementary project for basic facilities in the town, especially for recreational areas and parking spaces.
“The Limbang Town Square project under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) with a cost of RM3mil was supposed to be completed at the end of last year but experienced delays due to certain reasons.
“Now the project is almost completed, and the contractors guarantee that it will be fully completed by the end of this month, meaning that the community will be able to use this area by early July.
“This project consists of several scopes, including jogging tracks, a grandstand to watch football matches, and an open area for various purposes with the priority for parking spaces,” he said.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, said this when met during a visit to the Limbang Town Square project site and the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project to upgrade the Al-Muqarrabin Mosque at Kampung Nauran here, recently.
He also said due to cost constraints, only 176 parking lots were built out of the original plan of 300 lots.
“God willing, we will apply for additional funding for the second phase to complete our initial target of 300 parking lots.”
He hoped that the project would address the problem of insufficient parking spaces often faced in Limbang town due to development and the visits of Brunei citizens on weekends.
After visiting the Limbang Town Square project site, Dr Abdul Rahman continued his visit to the Al-Muqarrabin Mosque RTP project site.
It is understood that the scope of work for upgrading the mosque involves adding parking spaces and drainage with a cost of RM100,000, carried out under the Limbang Public Works Department.
